Painting 47

"Dogwood"

Originally started in 2012.

For 12 years it lived in my study as a 'sketch'.

Here's what it looked like before I reworked it:

  1. These two paintings offer slightly different emotional experiences. The sketch feels more raw version, with the artist exploring light and shadow. The play of light in the upper part of the painting creates a sense of bright, dappled sunlight, while the lower part remains in deep shadow, adding a layer of mystery.
The final version feels more polished, with more attention to colour harmony, detail, and a smoother application of light. The brushstrokes feel tighter, and the overall composition appears cleaner. The use of colour appears more deliberate, suggesting a more detailed approach to capturing the light and environment. The transitions between dark and light areas are smoother, creating a sense of depth without harsh contrasts. Overall, the final version feels more tranquil as refined details gives it a calm, peaceful atmosphere.
I am truly captivated by the beauty and depth of this painting. The artist behind this painting is incredibly talented and his skill and creativity is very impressive!
